"LAPD Officers Pursue Armed Suspect, Confrontation Results in Shooting"
Los Angeles: On Friday, April 12, 2002, at approximately 4:08 p.m., two Los Angeles Southeast Area Police Officers, accompanied by a California Parole Officer, were on patrol traveling eastbound on 91st Street from Hoover Street. At the 600 block of West 91st Street, the officers observed a male, later identified as 19 year-old Kendraey McCall, riding a bicycle on the sidewalk of 91st Street, toward the officers black and white police vehicle.
The officers got out of their car and they approached McCall and ordered him to stop. McCall then complied, but according to officers, he refused to place his hands on his head as ordered and then ran away eastbound on 91st Street. As officers pursued McCall on foot, they observed him tugging at his pants with his right hand, and as he was vaulting a fence, they saw him stop and remove a handgun. Turning toward the pursuing officers, McCall then pointed a handgun at one of the officers. Fearing for his life, the officer then drew his service revolver and fired at McCall, striking him in the upper torso.
McCall was transported to Martin Luther King Hospital where he later died from his wounds.

"Drive-By Shooting Investigation"
Los Angeles: On Friday, January 4, 2002, at approximately 12:15 p.m., the victim, Victor Eugene Farr, 33 years old, was driving his vehicle southbound on Clovis Avenue and 105th Street when he was apparently shot at several times by unknown suspect(s) with unknown type weapon. The victim's vehicle subsequently collided with a telephone utility box and rolled over. Preliminary investigation revealed Mr. Farr had suffered several gunshot wounds prior to driving off the road.
Los Angles Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced Mr. Farr dead at the scene.
The motive is currently unknown and there is no suspect information.

"Attempt Murder Suspect Arrested as a Result of Quick Action by Police Officer"
Los Angeles - On Friday, April 20, 2001, at 11:30 A. M., Officer Jaime Bennett, in plain clothes, while conducting administrative duties, was flagged down by a witness at 9914 South Broadway. The witness reported that he had just seen a robbery take place. He pointed out to Officer Bennett the suspect's fleeing vehicle. The witness further stated that the suspect, a male Black, approximately 26 years of age, had entered the laundromat and demanded the victim's car keys. The victim is a female Black, 70 years old. The suspect grabbed her car keys, pulled them away from her and then fired one round from a semi automatic weapon into her abdomen.
As the suspect fled the location in the victim's vehicle, Officer Bennett, though working by himself, followed the armed suspect while summoning the assistance of other officers and calling for an ambulance for the injured victim. After a brief vehicular pursuit, the suspect pulled the car over and got out. As he did so the weapon dropped to the ground. LAPD officers immediately converged on the suspect and took him into custody. The victim was transported to Martin Luther King Hospital where she is in serious, but stable condition. Officer Bennett visited the victim at the hospital after the suspect's arrest.
The suspect is identified as Richard Stokes, 26 years old, and a resident of Compton. He was booked for Attempt Murder and is being held without bail at Twin Towers County Jail. Richard Stokes is a known gang member. He is currently on parole for murder.

"Multiple Attempt Homicide Investigation"
Los Angeles - On Tuesday, November 14, 2000, at 10:50 a.m., uniformed officers from Southeast Area responded to a "Shots Fired, Ambulance Enroute" call, at the 9200 block of South Central Avenue, in Los Angeles.
Upon arrival, officers observed four victims down, suffering from gunshot injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed that a suspect, described as a male, Black or Hispanic, walked up to the group of young males who were standing in front of the meat market at that location. For unknown reason or provocation the suspect produced a handgun and began shooting into the group. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting.
The victims, described as males between the ages of 17 to 23 years of age, were transported to a local hospital, where they were listed in serious, but stable condition.
This incident is being investigated as gang related.

"Five Homicides, Over A Two Day Period In South Central L.A."
Los Angeles - Southeast Homicide Detectives are currently investigating five Homicides that occurred between May 17, 2000 at 8:00 p.m.- May 18, 2000 at 9:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at 8:00 p.m., the victim Marvin Johnson III, a 21-year-old male was standing with a group of friends at the corner of 104th Street and Clovis Avenue. Victim Johnson was on a bicycle along with his friend, who also was on a bicycle. The two, young men were standing with three, females between the ages of 13-17 years old. A mid sized vehicle drove northbound Clovis Avenue at 104th Street. The vehicle was occupied by four, male, Black suspects. One suspect leaned out the driver's side window and began shooting toward the group of young men and women. The suspects' vehicle continued northbound Clovis Avenue then westbound Century Boulevard. Victim Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by responding LAFD Paramedics. The other four victims sustained gunshot wounds and where transported to local area hospitals. Their injuries ranged from serious to minor. The motive for this shooting is gang related.
On Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at approximately 9:35 p.m., victim DeBoris Price, a 30 year old, Black, male, was walking in front of 126 West 117th Street with two unidentified friends. A dark colored sedan traveling eastbound on 117th Street stopped in front of the group and fired several gunshots from the vehicle. Victim Price was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, Paul Rhodes, a 37 year old, Black, male, was standing inside the vacant lot just west of victim Price's location. Victim Rhodes was struck by a stray round, but he was not the intended target. The motive for this shooting is Gang-Related.
On Thursday, May 18, 2000, at 8:50 a.m., victim Deangelo Anderson, a 17 year old, Black, male, was standing in front of the apartment complex at 10968 S. Avalon Boulevard. An older model, mid-size vehicle drove northbound past the apartment complex. A suspect leaned out the front passenger side window and fired several rounds from an unknown type handgun toward victim Anderson. The victim was struck once in the upper torso and collapsed on the ground. The suspect's vehicle continued northbound on Avalon Boulevard. Victim Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.
On Thursday, May 18, 2000, at approximately 8:55 p.m., victim Dennis Evans, a 22 year old, Black, male was with a male companion in the Imperial Courts Housing Development. The two men were arguing with the suspect regarding gang territory. The suspect produced an unknown type handgun and shot victim Evans. The victim's friend was able to run to safety. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by LAFD paramedics. The motive for this shooting is gang-related.
On Thursday, May 18, 2000, at approximately 9:20 p.m., victim Kirk Alfred, a 45 year old, Black, male was walking with a friend, in front of 838 West 94th Street. A suspect drove by, victim Alfred who was on a bicycle. For no apparent reason, the suspect fired several rounds at the victim. Victim Kirk collapsed at the scene and was pronounced dead by responding paramedics.

On Tuesday, December 7, 1999, at approximately 3:30 AM, Southeast Area patrol Officers Victoria Lim, Serial #30780, 28 years of age, five years eight months with the Department, and Jaroen Hitanukulkit, Serial #33852, 30 years of age, two years eight months with the Department, were in the Nickerson Gardens Housing Project when they were flagged down by a local citizen. The citizen advised them that an unidentified male was breaking into a white van parked on Parmalee Avenue between 112 and 114 Streets.
The officers approached the van in the police vehicle and observed the suspect inside. They ordered him to exit the van. He eventually complied, but immediately tried to flee on foot. The officers chased the suspect and overtook him after he stumbled and fell to the ground. As Officers Hitanukulkit and Lim attempted to take him into custody, the suspect became combative. A violent struggle ensued on the ground, with the suspect repeatedly punching and kicking the officers as he resisted their efforts to subdue him. On several occasions, the suspect attempted to seize the officer's service pistols. As Officer Hitanukulkit lay supine on the ground, the suspect again attempted to remove his weapon from its holster. Officer Lim, fearing for her and her partner's lives, drew her weapon and fired two shots at the suspect, wounding him. Other patrol officers responding to the location then took him into custody.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics provided emergency treatment to the suspect, but he failed to respond and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Hitanukulkit, who had apparently lost consciousness near the end of the struggle, was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released. Officer Lim received minor injuries to her hands and legs for which she was also treated and released.
A follow up investigation revealed that the suspect had committed a burglary from motor vehicle from the involved van.

On Sunday, December 5, 1999, at approximately 6:55 P.M., Southeast Area uniformed patrol officers Samuel Marullo, Serial No. 33567, 27 years old, 3 years with the Department, and Benjamin Perez, Serial No. 33573, 33 years old, 3 years with the Department, were driving westbound on 104th Street when they observed a man walking across the street holding a gun in his hand. The officers exited their police vehicle, identified themselves and Officer Marullo ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect then pointed the weapon at Officer Marullo and Marullo fired one round, striking the suspect in the upper torso.
The suspect was transported by Los Angles City Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.
The suspect's weapon was recovered at the scene.

On September 22, 1999, at approximately 8:55 P.M., Southeast Area uniformed Officers McMahon, 5 years with the Department, and Coughlin, 4 years with the Department, were handling a call for service within Nickerson Gardens. While completing the call for service, the officers heard the sound of numerous rounds being fired just north of their location.
The officers proceeded to the sound of the gunfire and observed suspect #1, a male Black, wearing a white Tshirt armed with a handgun; and suspect #2, a male Black, wearing dark pants, armed with an assault rifle, firing into a single unit apartment complex. The officers identified themselves and ordered the suspects to drop their weapons. The suspects failed to comply and began firing their weapons at the officers. The officers, fearing for their lives, returned fire. Suspect #1 disappeared from the officers' view and fled in an unknown direction.
The officers pursued suspect #2 to the area of 1400 E. 11th Street while broadcasting a help call. At this point, suspect #2 entered a parked vehicle. Officer McMahon deployed to the rear of the vehicle and identified himself as a police officer and ordered the suspect to place his hands outside of the vehicle. The suspect, armed with an assault rifle, turned in the direction of the officer. Officer McMahon, again fearing for his life, fired several rounds at the suspect, striking the suspect in the upper torso. The suspect started his vehicle and proceeded eastbound on 111th Street, where, after a short distance, he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a parked vehicle and came to a stop. The officers arrested the suspect without further incident. Suspect #1 was arrested a short distance away by responding units.
Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported suspect#2 to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Suspect #2's weapon was recovered at the scene. A follow up investigation determined that the suspects were involved in the murder of an individual who resides at 1350 E. 111th Pl.

"Man Shot Dead in Nickerson Gardens Housing Developments"
Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 24-year old male.
On Friday, September 27, 2002 at approximately 5:00 a.m., Los Angeles resident Marcus Johnson was shot to death inside an apartment located on the 1400 block of east 111th Place. The suspect, described only as a Black male, fled the incident scene on foot.
Johnson died at the scene. The motive is unknown at this time and no weapon was recovered.

"Attack on Officers Results in Officer-Involved Shooting"
Hacienda Heights: On October 12, 2002, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers assigned to Southeast Community Police Station, were on patrol in the area of 115th Street and Compton Avenue when they observed a male, in a red older model Toyota MR-2, drive by them in a reckless manner, with the vehicle tires screeching. The officers followed the individual to the Nickerson Gardens Housing Project, where he brought the vehicle to a stop and exited. The individual began acting in a strange and erratic manner. Residents in the area, including someone representing herself as the individual's mother, came to the location and advised the officers that the individual was on drugs. Refusing to heed the instructions of the officers, the male got back into the vehicle and left the location, driving in a reckless manner. Believing that the suspect was under the influence of drugs, the officers attempted to stop the suspect. The suspect refused to stop his vehicle and instead, engaged the officers in a high-speed pursuit, which ended in the 15800 block of Novak Street in the City of Hacienda Heights.

"Officer-Involved Shooting Occurs After Felony Evading Suspect Points Pellet Gun, Resembling a .45 Caliber, at Officers"
Southeast Area: On October 16, 2002, shortly after midnight, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers assigned to Southeast Community Police Station, attempted to make a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of Manchester Boulevard and Main Street. The driver of the vehicle, a new Toyota Camry with paper plates, refused to stop and instead, engaged the officers in a pursuit, traversing multiple freeways. During the course of the pursuit, the suspect was observed pointing, what at the time appeared to be, a gun, to his head. At one point during the pursuit, he also pointed the weapon at the pursuing officers. The pursuit was discontinued but was later resumed, by a different unit, due to the egregious nature of the suspect's actions. The vehicular pursuit, lasting approximately 57 minutes, ended in the area of Florence Avenue and State Street, in the City of Huntington Park, when the suspect failed to stop for the red phase of a tri-light traffic signal and collided with another vehicle carrying three occupants. The collision caused one of the occupants of the vehicle to be ejected. That victim was transported to a local hospital and her condition is unknown at this time. The remaining two occupants were also transported to a local hospital, by paramedics, for treatment of less serious injuries.
After the collision, the suspect exited his vehicle and ran from the location, closely pursued by the officers in their vehicle. While running, the suspect turned and pointed, what appeared to be a .45 caliber gun, at the officers. Officers Charles Hicks (Serial No. 32548, 34 years old, 6 years with the Department) and Andrew Moody (Serial No. 32390, 39 years old, 6 ½ years with the Department) both became fearful for their lives and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries are not life threatening. His true identity has not been determined at this point. He is approximately 32 years old. He will be booked for Assault With a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer. Additional charges are pending.
No officers were injured. The weapon used by the suspect was recovered and was later determined to be a pellet gun, resembling a .45 caliber gun. The vehicle driven by the suspect was reported stolen two weeks ago.
